2009 Zanzibari Reunion – Update Bulletin                       April 5, 2009

It seems that with the help of all, the word of our Reunion is spreading fast, and the interest continues to build as good wishes for a successful Reunion continue to pour in from near and afar! This is great, and serves as a powerful tonic to your Organizing Committee.

In our March 15 Bulletin (see below), we encouraged people to purchase their tickets for the Reunion as soon as possible to help us properly plan this event and many people have responded to that request. However there are many others who have registered their intention to attend on our website but have still not purchased their tickets. In order to help us and avoid disappointment please attend to this important matter soon.

Past organizers of similar events advise us that people generally submit their payments very close to the date of the event, with many showing up at the door on the night of the event, expecting to purchase their tickets at the door. We understand the natural tendency to procrastinate on matters, particularly in our Zanzibari community where the words “kesho” and “badaye” are as common as “haluwa” and “kahawa” but folks we need your help to book early so we may adequately plan for the catering and entertainment. We are not planning to sell tickets at the door and so cannot guarantee entrance to those who arrive without tickets.

Details of how to purchase tickets are set out in our previous correspondence below.

Thank you for your support and participation.

2009 Zanzibari Reunion – Update Bulletin               March 15, 2009

Our 2009 Reunion continues to receive support and interest from many Zanzibaris around the world. This constant flow of good wishes, anticipation of reconnecting with old friends, and the promise of a good time when we get together in August is both exciting to those who are planning to attend the Reunion and very gratifying to your Organizing Committee; and we thank you for that!

However, we are concerned that this deluge of inquiries and demonstrated interest for the Reunion reflects a huge pent up demand which we must carefully manage in order to avoid disappointments. We need to determine as quickly as possible the total number of attendees so that additional space may be booked at the selected venues and other related arrangements can be made to accommodate everyone!

This is how you can help us:

  1. Book your tickets for the Reunion as soon as possible. Details of the cost and how payment may be made were discussed in our announcement of February 4, 2009 and will be reproduced below. You will note that we have now finalized arrangements to facilitate payment by credit card (Visa and MasterCard).

  1. For those who will be coming from out of town and will require hotel accommodation, it is highly recommended that you book you hotel rooms as soon as possible. Our Reunion coincides with the world renowned annual Caribana Festival in Toronto. The Caribana Festival attracts a large number of tourists who fill up all hotels in Toronto. Details of Caribana Festival may be found at www.caribanafestival.com

Cost

The cost to attend both Reunion events has been set at Canadian $ 120 per person.

If you are planning to attend the Reunion please complete your Registration Form on the website and email it as soon as possible. Your payment should follow soon after registration. Once your payment is received you will receive a confirmation of your reservation, and you will be placed on the list of committed attendees which will also be posted on our website.

Payment can be made by Cheque, Money Order, Credit Card (Visa or MasterCard) or Wire Transfer.

Payment by credit card includes an 8% administrative charge payable to the website domain; so tickets purchased by credit cards would cost $129.60 each. If you wish to pay by credit card please visit our website at www.zanzibarifestival.myevent.com then click the “Buy Tickets” icon and follow instructions.

Payments by cheque or money order should be made payable to Zanzibari Reunion 2009 and mailed, along with a copy of your Registration Form to:
